![]() "The DOVE" for data over PBX phone lines |
The DOVE/MDL500 can also be used to transmit digital data over in-service current loop instrumentation lines. This is the preferred method of adding data communication capability using existing wires without disturbing the wires initial function.
There are a number of special characteristics which make the Data Over Voice Encoder particularly unique and useful for industrial applications.
Superior Performance
Dove allows full duplex data transmission up to 9600 baud for distances up to four miles on the 22 AWG PBX wiring and supports and switches with its Data Terminal Ready and Request-to-Sent controls signals. LED indicators monitor AC Power On, Transmit and Receive Data and Carrier Detect.
Many Applications
DOVE can be used to send any data in RS-232, 422 or 485 format- such as industrial process control and monitoring as well as word processing, graphics or accounting tasks. Use it as a full mid-sized local area network, or as a node on a larger T-1 or Ethernet LAN.
Completely Transparent
DOVE is absolutely transparent to all telephone operations. It does not interfere with telephone usage in any way, nor does telephone activity affect DOVE data transmissions. Telephone communications are unaffected even if power is lost.
Mobility
Whether you have a portable terminal or are moving an entire department, you can be in operation by simply "plugging in."
Noise Immunity
DOVE has exceptional immunity to electromagnetic interference. Transformer isolation of the data line eliminates ground plane problems. Multi-stage receiver filters insure high data integrity.
Polling
For multi-drop monitoring and process control applications install DOVE Master unit at the host computer to communicate with as many as 30 DOVE remote devices.
Field Configurable
DOVE Station and Central Units allow total flexibility with the telephone Tip and Ring configuration for data transmission on analog on-site PBX systems. Internal jumper matrices match any PBX modular cable wiring and also allow selection of DCE, DTE, DTR or RTS to disable DCD and to isolate the chassis ground. Field expansion is facilitated by the addition of up to three add-on backplanes to the central chassis. Each back plane holds up to three channel cards with four complete duplex channels per card; up to 48 channels for each chassis and as many chassis as needed.
